What Is GeM Registration?
The Government e-Marketplace is the central procurement platform through which ministries, departments, state governments and public sector undertakings buy goods and services. For a supplier it is a genuinely open channel: any registered business can list, and buyers are obliged to route most of their procurement through it, which means the demand is real and continuous rather than occasional.
How an order comes to you depends on its value. Small purchases can be made directly from a listed seller. Mid-value purchases require the buyer to compare offers from multiple sellers and buy at the lowest price. Larger purchases go through a formal bid or reverse auction. Each route rewards something different — direct and comparison purchases reward a complete, well-specified, competitively priced catalogue, while bids reward reading the specification carefully and responding precisely.
The work that decides whether GeM produces revenue for you is the catalogue. Products listed against the wrong category, with thin specifications or poor images, simply do not surface in buyer searches. Getting the listings right, keeping them current, and responding properly to bids is where most sellers either succeed or quietly give up after a few months of nothing happening.
How Government Buys on GeM

- Requires competitive pricing

Benefits
What you actually gain from GeM Registration.
A buyer pool you cannot reach otherwise
Central and state government bodies and PSUs buy continuously through GeM. Without a listing you are simply not visible to any of them.
MSE preferences built into the platform
Udyam-registered micro and small enterprises get purchase preference and relaxations on the portal, including in tender eligibility conditions.
Payment terms defined by policy
GeM prescribes payment timelines after acceptance of goods, which is a materially better position than chasing private buyers with no recourse.
No physical tendering
The whole cycle — listing, bidding, order, invoice, payment — runs online. You can serve buyers across India without a local presence.
Eligibility
Check where you stand before applying — we confirm all of this on the first call anyway.
